UFC Fighter Cut After Suspicious Betting Activity Rocks Las Vegas Event Between Isaac Dulgarian And Yadier Del Valle-
The UFC has found itself caught up in another betting controversy after cutting featherweight fighter Isaac Dulgarian just two days after his first-round loss to Yadier del Valle at a recent Fight Night in Las Vegas.
What’s causing the stir isn’t just the loss — it’s the unusual betting pattern that appeared before the fight.
A Sudden Shift in the Odds-
In the hours leading up to the bout, Dulgarian was seen as a heavy favorite. His odds to win were around –250, meaning a bettor had to risk $250 to win $100 — a clear sign that most expected him to win easily.
Then, less than an hour before the fight, something strange happened: Dulgarian’s odds dropped sharply to –154. That swing suggested that large amounts of money were suddenly being bet against him.
On top of that Del Valle getting a first-round submission was at +850 odds, which means a $100 bet would give $950 back, but all of a sudden they went down to +450, which means a $100 bet would give $550. That dramatic of a shift only comes when an insane amount of money pours into a specific bet. And that is unheard of in a bet that specific, which includes a round and a method.
The shift was so dramatic that several sportsbooks stopped accepting bets altogether, citing suspicious or “irregular” wagering behavior. On top of that, many sportsbooks gave any money bet on that fight back, which once again is completely unheard of.
What happened during the fight?
Minutes later, Dulgarian lost by first-round submission, which made the timing of those bets look even more questionable. This raised concerns that someone might have had inside information — such as knowledge of an injury, poor training camp, or other details that could affect the fight’s outcome — and used that information to profit. Dulgarian is a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu, so the fact that he wasn't able to defend the submission was seen as suspicious by everyone, especially since going into the fight, he was seen as a clear favorite that was better in every way. This, combined with the suspicious betting, has led to a very big controversy.
UFC’s Response-
The UFC moved quickly, releasing Dulgarian from his contract as reports of the betting irregularities spread. While there’s no public evidence yet of wrongdoing, the move shows how seriously the promotion is taking the matter.
Sports leagues have become increasingly sensitive to gambling scandals as betting grows across the United States. Even the appearance of inside betting can damage public trust — something the UFC can’t afford as it continues to expand its mainstream audience.
This quote from the UFC shows how seriously they are taking it. “Like many professional sports organizations, UFC works with an independent betting integrity service to monitor wagering activity on our events,” it said in a statement. “Our betting integrity partner, IC360, monitors wagering on every UFC event and is conducting a thorough review of the facts surrounding the Dulgarian vs. del Valle bout on Saturday, November 1. We take these allegations very seriously, and along with the health and safety of our fighters, nothing is more important than the integrity of our sport.”(New York Post)
Problems in other organizations-
This has gotten people talking about some of the ongoing problems, including one of the most prominent ones being in the NBA right now, where Several current and former NBA players and coaches have been suspected of allegedly sharing non-public information (such as injury status or performance plans) and participating in illegal betting operations. The league has come under pressure from the U.S. Senate, which is demanding answers about how the NBA monitors and handles betting risks among players and staff. So the people who decided to fix the fight in the UFC could not have chosen a worse time to try and do something like that, since every major sports league is taking a deeper look into illegal sports betting practices.
